6/25/12-Dieter Schule Trainers and Judges Forum, Three Year Old's

WIth guests, Mr. Gerhard Politz and Mr. Axel Steiner. three year old, stretching, dressage test, acceptance of the bit, disunited canter

Part 1: First look at this lovely 3 yr. old.

Part 2: On day two this same horse and rider team begin in the working trot with his neck down to engage the back more. They slow the tempo a bit which allows for more engagement. The rider is asked for a bit more bend, but there is caution expressed for asking for too much forward with this extravagant mover. They discuss why it is important for the horse to accept and chew on the bit. Mr. Politz recommends that riders use a shorter stirrup when riding younger horses to be very clear with the position of the leg when using aids.

Part 3: The question and answer session allows Dr. Schule to explain the difference between dropping the neck and going on the forehand. Mr. Politz gives a thorough expansion on these differences. The next question about how much to work a young horse brings on a discussion of what a possible training schedule for a young horse should be. Question three asks for a clarification on how long a young horse should be ridden in a low stretchy position. When a participant explains that her horse takes 20 minutes to stretch into the contact, Mr. Politz suggests lunging first before riding, as well as how stretching should be used in a training session. The last question deals with horses that don't accept the bit.

Part 4: This segment shows a three year old dressage test.

Part 5: The spectators judge the riding of the dressage test, and Dr. Schule gives his response to their scores.
