03/15/13 - Jose Mendez - Training Level

Jose Mendez works with the basics of Training level.


Part 1: Jose Mendez works with this Training level pair by beginning with a six meter circle at the walk. He explains the aids for the shoulder fore. When asking for the halt, Jose helps the rider attain a square halt.

Part 2: They continue at the trot, and Jose provides many good tips on being forward, the use of the whip and contact. He describes the leg position and length of stirrup the rider should aim for.

Part 3: Jose reviews how to improve the quality of the trot. By asking for the canter on a circle, they have the bend and a more supple back for the depart.

Part 4: Jose gives an excellent description of the aids used to ask the horse to go more forward, and how they interact. As they canter, Jose helps the rider keep straight. The work they have done together has created a trot that tracks up with more cadence and suspension.

Part 5: They continue with the canter and do a shoulder fore with flexion to the inside on the quarter line, getting better bend and bounce in the canter. Jose reviews with them the improvements since the last clinic. They discuss what the movements are for the beginning of collection.

Part 6: They now work on a three loop serpentine in a nice trot and then work on transitions within the trot. Jose gives her great advice about riding corners and the trot continues to improve. With this lovely trot, they ask for a forward and correct down transition.
