07/29/12 - Katrin Bettenworth - Moving Up From PSG
progressive warm up, canter pirouette, half pass, flying changes
Part 1: The warm up begins with trotting and then canter with the mare finding her own rhythm and stretching. This allows her to develop her own cadence. Work starts with a more engaged hind leg in the canter to a walk transition, a leg yield and a canter transition again to check the reactions of the mare to the aids.
Part 2: When Ms. Betttenworth is satisfied with this exercise, they work on lateral work in the canter, counter canter, medium canter and half pass. The next exercise is shoulder in on the circle, requiring the mare to carry more. They then school the canter pirouette.
Part 3: Watch this segment for useful exercises on working the fours, threes, twos and a few ones in a manner appropriate for a seven year old. It's an excellent opportunity to watch a mare has begun piaffe and passage work on improving her technique as she moves up to Grand Prix. They end with a great example of the stretchy trot.
